In this video I talk about my own passion for independent touring and how I fell in love with the experience and benefits of combining both. Do you prefer solo exploring or travelling with a group? 1. I am now way over 60 into my 70s and travel both ways. Until I was 66 I traveled exclusively solo. My first group encounter was to allow me to explore inland Alaska and there were just too many miles to travel solo. I am not a people person, so when I do travel with a group I still book solo accommodations. Yes, it cost more but to me it is worth it. I love going back to my private accommodations at the end of the day. I also like it when the other travelers give me some space. I can be sociable when needed but need my alone time. I also take off on my own when we get to certain areas that allow for that. One of my biggest cons in group travel is the early mornings. As a night owl they are almost unbearable. So I limit my group travel to either trips with thousands of miles to travel, or to places I can’t easily do on my own. I just came back from a New England trip where we covered 6 states….which was way more driving than I wanted to do. In June I am doing a solo trip which I have already booked from FL to Chicago, Amtrak to SFO, a flight from there to Reno a rental car to Lake Tahoe for a week then back to Reno and fly home. If you are an early riser, a love to be around people group travel should be your choice almost all of the time. If you prefer your own company and taking off in whatever direction feels good to you and can afford the extra expense then solo might be the more preferred choice.

  2. I just hit 70, am widowed and a seasoned free-form traveller. I just took off to Baja to travel some of our old favorite places. But alas, I miss having a companion or two. I am not interested in traveling in a large group. I just finished a month camping alone on Baja beaches. I met some great fellow travelers but would love to have another adventurous soul with me for future trips “down under”. Or lets do some hiking in the Pacific northwest, some camping, some backpacking or just meet somewhere with our kayaks for some adventuring. I have a business but will make the time to meet and travel with another woman or two.

  3. I do solo travel and group travel. I do book my own room however. I need that one hour each day without people talking.
